Menu’s new serving set with an innovative cooling function is well thought out.

The design company Menu has produced a new stroke of genius. Together with the architects Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen and Kasper Rønn from Norm, Menu has created an exclusive serving set comprising a melamine tray, a porcelain platter and an especially creative detail: A cooling pad that can be placed between the tray and platter after a short time in the freezer to keep sushi, cold dishes, cakes and dessert fresh throughout your meal. The idea is so obvious that you could wonder why you don’t have such a serving set at home already…

    <

Just like Menu, Norm is deeply rooted in the Scandinavian design tradition, which unites craftsmanship, materials, aesthetics and functionality. Durability is very important to Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen and Kasper Rønn – not just the durability that comes from good craftsmanship and quality materials, but also aesthetic durability. They strive to design timeless products that are so attractive that you want to look at them again and again and that meet actual needs – preferably in a new and better way than existing products. They have certainly succeeded in their aim with this serving set.

    A variety of uses
The tray has a 35 cm diameter and is made of melamine. It has a characteristic design with a flat base and smooth curves on each side that provide a good grip when carrying it from the kitchen to the dining room. The white porcelain platter fits perfectly into the tray and there is space between the platter and tray for the accompanying cooling pad if the food is to be kept cold. Without the cooling pad, the set also works wonderfully for serving hot dishes and the tray and platter can be used separately.

Design Dishes, bowls, trays, vases, candlesticks, wood products, scarves, buttons and textiles. Yes, there is hardly any end to the products from the company Pure Culture in Kolding, which is among the exhibitors at Formland Autumn 2009 in Fairs MCH Herning.

Pure Culture was incorporated in 2004 by Trine and Torben Holm Larsen. They had for several years traveled to many tradition-rich countries in the Far East, South America and Africa, and it was on these trips that the inspiration for Pure Culture was created. The basic idea was – and is – to explore the many wonderful crafts that exist in countries from which it chooses the most exciting products and disseminates them in Scandinavia.

They thus established contacts with the best producers and subsequently imported the products. Additionally Pure Culture established local knowledge and quality control at production sites and from the first day Pure Culture took an active part in human rights, environment and anti-corruption.

Pure Culture then began to put their own stamp on these traditional handicraft products by linking the design staff with a wide network of Danish and foreign designers and artists. In this way, they always add to the products something new, a custom Scandinavian style and make them tomorrow’s trends.

Today, Pure Culture is a well established and dynamic company with a large group of customers at home and abroad.

Menu has presented two attractive new products in one. The design company’s carving set is an example of new and original design made of environmentally-friendly bamboo.
Every last detail has been thought of in Menu’s new carving set designed by Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen and Kasper Rønn from Norm. The set consists of a refined melamine tray and a cutting board in bamboo that has fully unique traits and glows just as beautifully as noble wood. The two pieces have innumerable applications, both together and individually. The stylish carving set is ideal for cutting and serving a roast, or for serving cheese, cold cuts, bread, etc. The cutting board can be used in the kitchen and at the dining table and the tray by itself functions as a serving tray and platter.
The tray is made of black melamine. The characteristic form with smooth curves on both sides provides a good grip when carrying the tray from the kitchen to the dining table. The cutting board is made of bamboo, which is significantly harder and more durable than most types of wood. This makes the board water resistant; it also dries very quickly and is very hygienic. The cutting board fits precisely into the tray, which stands on four rubber supports. A hole in the middle ensures that the board is easy to lift again and that meat juices flow into the tray without dripping on the table and staining the tablecloth. An example of good and thoroughly thought out craftsmanship in the best tradition of Scandinavian design.
Bamboo – a sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative
Bamboo is an environmentally friendly and robust material that is increasingly used in everything from textiles to furniture. Bamboo has natural anti-bacterial traits and can be cultivated without the use of pesticides. Bamboo plants produce more oxygen, remove significantly more CO2 from the atmosphere than trees and, unlike trees, bamboo plants reach their full grown height just one year after being harvested, after which they can be harvested again. Therefore, Menu’s new carving set is not just multifunctional design; it is also a small contribution to the environment.

Pizza can be much more than just fast food. With the right ingredients, it is a delicacy which has rightly helped make Italian food world famous. But one problem that is always there for pizza lovers and bakers is getting sliced pizza without all the fillings pushed down in one corner, while ensuring that the tough bottoms of durum wheat are cut properly through. Then there’s always the problem of subsequently obtaining purified pizza wheel well of clotted cheese and tomato sauce. But now there is good news on the way from Micro Plane!

The solution is an ergonomically designed pizza cutter where the wheel can be easily and simply be removed when the pizza is eaten, and can be put in the dishwasher. To ensure that the pizza cutter does not unnecessarily push around the filling but instead makes a nice and clean cut, the Micro Plane cuts the pizza with an extra-large wheel. For pizzas as in tractors – the bigger the wheel, the easier it glides over – or through – obstacles.

Micro Plane is known in both professional and private kitchens the world over for its ultra-sharp grater and other tools and now the company, after repeated requests from its customers, has begun to concern itself with other kitchen utensils in which the company can make a difference by thinking a little sharper.

In August there will be a fair held at Fairs MCH Herning. The Pizza wheel will be available in September 2009. It costs 149 kroner in the indicative retail price and will be available in independent cookware shops and at Inspirations chain stores.
