<

The big French stall at Formland Autumn 2009 in Fairs MCH Herning shows Alain Dupasquier results of his creativity and his efforts. It takes the form of outdoor garden furniture from the chestnut-Limousin region – sofas, stools and chairs for adults and children.

Chestnut from Limousin-region has a lot of tannin, so they do not rot. Therefore it lends itself particularly well to have outdoor furniture. Chestnut resist insects and bad weather, and if you leave the furniture standing out, they quickly get a beautiful silver gray tinge.

Besides pursuing an old rural tradition Alain Dupasquier also uses the local ecological resources.

A total of seven design are represented at the great French stall at Formland in Autumn 2009. The tool is organized by the Franco-Danish company Abildgaard Consult Ltd and the director, Pia Abildgaard, is Danish.

Everyone is becoming more environmentally conscious and we all know the problem of buying groceries and packing them into too many plastic bags each week. Not one, but two of course in order to secure they do not rupture and due to a lack of a working, innovative alternative.

One of Steltons most successful designers, Klaus Rath, has thought about this problem and came up with a solution that is fashionable, secure and functional at the same time, saving us all the use of and money needed for plastic bags along the way.

Shopnic – the new shopping / picnic basket

Klaus Rath has done it again. The young designer behind the bestselling Stelton bread bag has developed an all new shopping-/ picnic basket called ”Shopnic”. It carries a weight of 10 kg and takes about 15 l. Shopnic can, when not in use, be folded to a minimum of 7 cm in height, which is practical to fit below the child’s buggy or inside your car’s trunk, making space for larger items.

Compared to traditional solutions, Shopnic is supplied with a spring, making it possible to be unfolded like a magician’s hat – a practical idea, when you have already one hand holding e.g. your groceries or your child’s buggy. Shopnic has the perfect size both for shopping and the weekend’s picnic, why it is named Shopnic.

Shopnic comes in black/sand, sand/pistachio and red/pink colour schemes – fashionable colours which suit every style.

Both, the inside & outside covers may be washed in the washing machine by 30°C, making stains from spilled milk, juice and other liquids inside the basket a thing of the past.

The outdoor kitchen is making its mark in many gardens, and we now spend a lot of time socialising on the patio. The new Eva Solo grill plate adds a dash of elegance to outdoor living.

The Eva Solo grill plate was designed for people who appreciate elegant functionality. It provides outdoor living with the stylish touch demanded by discerning consumers. The quality is superb, and the design is perfectly simple, which means that the plate sits just as well on an untreated wooden table as on a white tablecloth.

The white porcelain plate with raised grooves is perfect for the well-cooked steak. And because the plate is oval, it doesn’t take up too much space.

The grill plate is the latest addition to the Eva Solo outdoor range, which already comprises a plethora of luxury design. The white porcelain plates match products such as the popular Eva Solo table grill and the beautiful bowls with handle.

It is now possible to lay the table for an intimate dinner for two or for a garden brunch for friends and family – without compromising on style and quality.

Eva Solo grill plate, boxed set of two. Price 49,00 Euro

The Lean beach chair from Trip Trap Denmark has an aesthetic design, is easy to assemble and easy to transport. And now the chair can also be called prize winning. On Friday, Lean was awarded the Formland Design Award – Spring 2008. The award was presented during the Formland Spring 2008 opening ceremony at MCH Messecenter Herning – Scandinavia’s biggest trade show for arts and crafts, design and interior. The well recognised prize was presented to representatives of Trip Trap Denmark by Elsebeth Gerner Nielsen, the principal of Designskolen in Kolding. The prize includes a marketing grant of DKK 100,000 and a statuette as visible evidence of the Formland Design Award.

‘Lean achieves a wonderful relationship between functionality and form. Outdoor life gains a new dimension with the beach chair, which is sculpturally wonderful and carefully thought through. The designer has created a beautiful interpretation of a popular classic, very successfully combining material preparation and aesthetic expression’, the prize committee’s award statement explains. The committee of judges have placed emphasis on design, innovation, functionality and price.

Designer behind a chair for The Crown Prince
Lean was created by 44 year old Hans Sandgren Jakobsen. The Danish designer was trained at Den Danske Designskole in Copenhagen and has worked for, among others, a Japanese design company. Hans Sandgren Jakobsen is the man behind several pieces of innovative furniture, including the PINGO chair which was an entry to the ‘A chair for Crown Prince Frederik’ competition arranged by Dansk Møbelindustri. Hans Sandgren Jakobsen has won a number of design prizes in the course of his career and he has participated in exhibitions both in Denmark and abroad.

Hans Sandgren Jakobsen has created with Lean a piece of furniture which is easy to take on family trips to the beach. The chair can be quickly and simply unfolded and is equally easy to fold up again. Lean is, in addition to beach trips, perfect for concerts, picnics, barbecues or as a children’s TV chair. The recommended retail price for Lean is from DKK 1,795 to 1,995.

Five nominated for the Formland Design Award
Five Formland exhibitor products were nominated for the Formland Design Award – Spring 2008. Nominations in addition to Lean from Trip Trap Denmark were the sustainable cushion The Cushion from poy poy copenhagen, the porcelain Cammeo series from Holmegaard/Kähler, Eva Solo dishcloth from Eva Denmark and the PLOPP footstool from HAY. 77 products were entered for the prize.

The committee of judges were Bo Bedre’s co-editor Charlotte Ravnholt, graphic designer John Boye, creative manager Jørn Moesgaard and designer and furniture architect Birgitte Appelong. The Formland Design Award has been awarded since 1987.

A clever and environmentally friendly cushion with a sustainable design. poy poy copenhagen has created The Cushion based on this concept. The Cushion has a well defined high quality design and fits many different chair types. The cushion is designed by Helle Kjær and Lykke Kjær.

‘The elegant shape and environmental materials make The Cushion from poy poy copenhagen a successful and sustainable new product. The cushion is available in smart versions which have a fresh design that appeals in particular to graphic and minimalist types. The cushion also has a very delicate range of colours’, the prize committee states.

The Cushion’s core is of high density polyethylene (PE) foam, which is one of the most environmentally friendly plastics. The material does not inflict any significant impact on the environment and only releases CO2 and water during total combustion.

The cushion is available in three versions. The coated cushion is for indoor and outdoor living and can be washed with a damp cloth or under running water. The second version is 100 % furniture wool, which is dirt repellent. This version is therefore very suitable for dining room tables in particular. The final version is a combination of 100 % wool on the one side and coated materials on the other.

The recommended retail price for The Cushion is DKK 450.

Why not live in a minimalist designer home designed by two of the world’s leading designers. Built from white-glazed ceramics the home offers elegance and style from top to bottom. The entrance has been specially designed to meet your requirements – views of green open spaces guaranteed. Your new designer home is ready for occupation – as long as you are a garden bird.

The designer team behind the Eva Solo products has seriously taken outdoor life under its wings. They have created a designer nesting box. According to Jette Lykke Kamstrup, Marketing Manager at Eva Denmark, there is logic to the winged ideas for outdoor life. Our requirements for quality design started moving from our living rooms and out into the garden long ago.

“2006 was the year when we seriously started spending more time eating, entertaining and enjoying life outdoors. In 2007, this trend will continue with outdoor kitchens and sleeping under the stars. And there has to be an element of style with everything. This growing interest in outdoor living means that garden design has now become as important as that indoors. Products have to be both beautiful and functional,” says Jette Lykke Kamstrup, Marketing Manager at Eva Denmark.

This elegant Eva Solo bird box has been created for design-conscious individuals who believe that nothing is too good for the winged visitors to our gardens. The nesting box is made of white-glazed terracotta and black plastic, which protects the little home from wind and rain. Moreover, the combination of white glaze and terracotta means the nesting box reflects heat, protecting the chicks from overheating at the height of summer. Thanks to the shiny sides and the lid’s special closing mechanism, cats and other inquisitive predators really face a problem with this little nesting box.

Choice of front door for your favourite bird
The nesting box entrance makes it possible to choose which bird species you want making itself at home. The nesting box has been designed with changeable entrance holes in four different sizes to match different sized birds. Select the size of entrance that matches your favourite bird, whether it is a blue tit, great titmouse, tree sparrow or wren. This stylish home has also been fitted with an internal ladder so chicks that are ready to leave the nest can safely make their way from the bottom of the nest and out into the open. The materials chosen mean that the nesting box is easy to clean so that it is ready every year for a new family or bird species. Whether you prefer long warbles or lively chirps, the nesting box gives you the chance to follow life in the garden at close quarters. Right from when the first whistles of spring can be
heard in the white nesting box until the chicks leave the nest and probably start searching for their own stylish designer homes.

The Eva Solo nesting box is made of white-glazed ceramic and black plastic. The nesting box can be fitted using nails or the accompanying fixture. The four accompanying holes have the following sizes: 28 mm for Blue Tits, 32 mm for Great Titmice, 35 mm for House Sparrows/Tree Sparrows, and 38 mm for Wrens
