<

ToddlerTable Cutlery is designed by Josefine Bentzen. The designer has placed emphasis on creating cutlery that supports the children’s development of motor skills. The cutlery was designed on the basis of the special way children grasp things. The Scandinavian Award Committee who are responsible for the choice of winner gave the following reasons:

“This is the child’s own cutlery. The design is good with a handle that fills the whole hand. The design, combined with an anti-slide material on the handle, means that the child has a good grip on the cutlery, which can quickly help to make eating themselves a good experience. The colours are spot on and the expression is unique. The cutlery is playful, practical and very attractive – it looks good on a well-laid table. And it is also made of environmentally friendly material. A new, obvious idea for a christening present.

The recommended retail price for ToddlerTable Cutlery is DKK 299. The children’s cutlery can be seen at stand C2710 at the Formland Fair.

The other nominees for the Formland Design Award were EGO with a bamboo collection, Eva Denmark with Eva Trio kitchenware, PK Design – Design House Stockholm with the Arrow hook and Hornvarefabrikken with the Anines vases. A total of 70 products were submitted for judging at the Formland Design Award – Autumn 2009.

Pizza can be much more than just fast food. With the right ingredients, it is a delicacy which has rightly helped make Italian food world famous. But one problem that is always there for pizza lovers and bakers is getting sliced pizza without all the fillings pushed down in one corner, while ensuring that the tough bottoms of durum wheat are cut properly through. Then there’s always the problem of subsequently obtaining purified pizza wheel well of clotted cheese and tomato sauce. But now there is good news on the way from Micro Plane!

The solution is an ergonomically designed pizza cutter where the wheel can be easily and simply be removed when the pizza is eaten, and can be put in the dishwasher. To ensure that the pizza cutter does not unnecessarily push around the filling but instead makes a nice and clean cut, the Micro Plane cuts the pizza with an extra-large wheel. For pizzas as in tractors – the bigger the wheel, the easier it glides over – or through – obstacles.

Micro Plane is known in both professional and private kitchens the world over for its ultra-sharp grater and other tools and now the company, after repeated requests from its customers, has begun to concern itself with other kitchen utensils in which the company can make a difference by thinking a little sharper.

In August there will be a fair held at Fairs MCH Herning. The Pizza wheel will be available in September 2009. It costs 149 kroner in the indicative retail price and will be available in independent cookware shops and at Inspirations chain stores.

The architects Bene dict, and Poul Erik Find from Tegnestuen Hindevadgård in Søndersø Fyn found ladders lacked aesthetics while they were unable to reach the upper shelves of the library shelves. Based on Høkerstigen by merchants used in the old days, they have created a modern design of the old classic. It can be seen at Formland Autumn 2009 14 to 17 August, which will take place at Fairs MCH Herning.

Stair ladders are manufactured in solid birch and have an extended grip on one side, that you can hold on to. This makes it suitable for people of all ages, whether it’s your child who has to reach the kitchen table, or you who needs to get something that is up in a cupboard. The steps are ergonomic and good to stand on. Even at the uppermost level, you are safe and comfortable with one hand on the extended grip.

Stair Ladders are functional and are good and safe to use daily. The special-designed brass fittings ensure that the ladder does not slip.

After use, the ladder can be folded together and hung on the wall using the included Wall Bracket and therefore is always at hand when you need it. It is simultaneously a simple tool that is reliable and display furniture when not in use.

The first product was in clear lacquer, but the latest products are also available in the colors black, white and orange, so you have the opportunity to create contrast or harmony in your home.

Connect with curly household films and environmental friendly stanniol

Stanniol – also known as tin foil – is one of the most environmentally friendly options you can choose to pack lunch and leftovers into. First, it takes much energy to the manufacture; secondly, it is virtually impossible to decompose. But a great many are using it because it is easily better than paper, which require elastic and some dexterity to stick together or domestic films, which traditionally have been almost impossible because of the label and it is extremely difficult to even get detached from the roller.

But now, there is a new Danish invention with silver paper and makes it easy for everyone to use the thinner, cheaper, and far more environmentally friendly household films. The solution is a foil cutter, using a hot wire and a rechargeable lithium battery allows the user to cut domestic films in exactly the length he or she needs. Domestic film protects the foil cutter transferor when it is not being used, so it is easy to find next time it is used.

Hamonoya ApS in Dyssegård presents the new, stylish foil cutter Formland in Spring 2009 from 14-17th August at the place Fairs MCH Herning.

Film Cut transferee is designed to hang on the wall, or stuck in the drawer, or be used by hand – all three ways that it easily cuts the foil over so that it does not curl and is ready to use. The effective cut is achieved by the foil cutter with a heated filament.

Film Cut skipper produced in a design that makes it easy to keep clean and hygienic. The built-in lithium battery can handle between 400 and 500 cuts before it needs a recharge.. Charging is done using the supplied 230 V appears – exactly the same way as we charge our cell phones.

Pull the foil off easy and let it touch the hot wire, which are activated and in a few milliseconds heats the foil to 60 degrees. Then it goes into a nice smooth cut and can be placed on the bowl, or food. Film Cut Transferees are designed so that you cannot get burn on the thread, it reaches only 60 degrees. Also the wire is heated for only a few milliseconds and cannot overheat, hence it is very safe.

The electric foil cutter is the end to curly domestic films

Royal Copenhagen is internationally known for exploring and expanding the potential of porcelain. Now the porcelain factory launches the ground-breaking new concept “Function”, which fusions terrific design and world-class functionality.

The Function series consists of functional and aesthetic items for the kitchen and the table. And with the new concept Royal Copenhagen opens the door to all the kitchens where aesthetic and good taste are given pride of place. In an inviting and minimalistic mode of expression, Function tells the story of modern design and the many famous dinner services, which Royal Copenhagen has created for generations. Featured in all of the series’ parts, are the decorative flutes that were actually used for the first time in 1775 on the Blue Fluted service. Since then, they have been Royal Copenhagen’s unique feature.

Among other things, the series offers a decorative lemon squeezer in white porcelain, where the fluting has been enlarged and inverted so they can effectively squeeze the juice out of oranges and lemons. The series’ elegant wine set, which comprises corkscrew and wine stopper also sends sophisticated compliments to the fluted look. The white porcelain handle of the corkscrew is bedecked with the decorative fluting. The same is true of the delicate porcelain sphere that constitutes the top of the wine stopper.

As well as having an aesthetic effect, the fluting ensures that the handle and top do not slip unnecessarily while in use.

Add to this a bowl in white fluted porcelain equipped with the soft silicone cover from Royal Copenhagen’s popular Contrast mug. Silicon has both a functional and aesthetic effect because it both provides insulation and contrast to the hard white porcelain with the decorative colours of mother of pearl and purple. The bowl is perfect for everything from dressing to nuts and sweets.

Furthermore, the series gathers together some of Royal Copenhagen’s most popular kitchen items such as the sculptural white spice jars in White Fluted porcelain for the aesthetic cook. The 11 cm tall white cylinders are designed to store herbs and spices so that they keep their flavour. The cylinders each have a narrow band that identifies their contents in clear, white letters. The set is available as six spice jars on a small tray. The spice jars may also be purchased individually to accommodate an expanding collection of herbs and spices.

Furthermore, the ground-breaking Contrast mugs are being launched in pink and orange colours.

The Function series also offers attractive aprons and tea towels.

The modern fusion kitchen draws inspiration from the entire world and mixes different cooking traditions together. That is why Odoardo Fioravanti has redesigned a series of traditional kitchen utensils. Fusion Cooking consists of a palette, ladle and tongs, useful both for cooking and serving.

Odoardo Fioravanti explains: “My approach towards design is to observe people’s actions and behaviour, although they constantly change. This is the basis for any new concept. As to Fusion Cooking, I had noticed how people mix different food cultures together and I decided to develop some utensils aimed at the fusion kitchen. I wanted traditional utensils to have a new form, which had not been seen before – as if they had evolved and some new species had been created. The name symbolises both the inspiration behind the design, as well as the fusion in the combination of materials.”

Fusion Cooking consists of three products with different functions, but with the same expression and form. The tongs easily grip the food, the palette easily turns any meat and vegetables, and the asymmetrical ladle is good for serving.

Fusion Cooking is a design for people who like to be surrounded by beautiful things – including in the kitchen.

Fusion Cooking Tongs: £ 12,50,-

Yellow Cab is the name of Vipp’s 2009 Limited Edition. The inspiration for the new line comes directly from the pulsating streets of New York. Here, in the city that never sleeps, more than 13.000 yellow cabs daily leave their clear impressions.

Besides thousands of yellow cabs, New York is now also home to Vipp’s first showroom outside of Denmark. This marks a new chapter in the almost 70 year long history of Vipp.

New York now also spells Vipp and Yellow Cab. The colour of the year immediately leads your thoughts towards the very special impression that overwhelms you when you find yourself in Times Square.

Vipp Yellow Cab is a new interpretation of the classic Vipp universe that will bring new life to your bathroom and kitchen. A chic and dazzling spring colour giving you a little bite of The Big Apple.

Vipp Yellow Cab is available from February 1st 2009 and throughout the year in leading design stores. To find your nearest dealer, please go to vipp.com.

Behind New York’s yellow cabs

The famous yellow cabs are the lifeblood of New York and have achieved iconic status, just as Vipp has won praise as an international design icon. With the new series from Vipp, Scandinavian minimalism meets the big city pulse of New York.

Today, New York is home of more than 13.000 yellow cabs. This number is known because a special license is required in order to own a yellow cab. The license was introduced in 1937 at a cost of 10 dollars. The license can be sold on by the owner, and the major taxi companies are willing to pay large sums for it. In 2007, the price of a license had risen to 600.000 dollars.

Gasoline powered taxis were introduced in New York in 1907 by young businessman Harry N. Allen. He was also the first to introduce the yellow colour on taxis. He did this after learning that yellow is the colour easiest seen from a distance. In 1960 the city of New York decided that all taxis were to be painted yellow.

The new Eva Solo grill plate adds a dash of elegance to outdoor living.

The Eva Solo grill plate was designed for people who appreciate elegant functionality. It provides outdoor living with the stylish touch demanded by discerning consumers. The quality is superb, and the design is perfectly simple, which means that the plate sits just as well on an untreated wooden table as on a white tablecloth.

The white porcelain plate with raised grooves is perfect for the well-cooked steak. And because the plate is oval, it doesn’t take up too much space.

The grill plate is the latest addition to the Eva Solo outdoor range, which already comprises a plethora of luxury design. The white porcelain plates match products such as the popular Eva Solo table grill and the beautiful bowls with handle.

It is now possible to lay the table for an intimate dinner for two or for a garden brunch for friends and family – without compromising on style and quality.

Eva Solo grill plate, boxed set of two. Price 49,00 Euro

The dishcloth has for a very long time been an overlooked every day object in the kitchen. However, it does not need to be this way in the future. Eva Solo has re-invented the traditional dishcloth as a trendy design object with a new and improved functionality. The dishcloth can stand up unsupported, radiates elegance in the kitchen and dries quickly. The Eva Solo Dishcloth has been created by the award winning Tools Design by the designers Claus Jensen and Henrik Holbæk.

‘It is the first time the dishcloth has been approached in this way. It has been created in new, different materials and can stand unsupported – also when wet. Eva Solo’s solution is a successful attempt to bring more aesthetics into the kitchen’, the nomination from the prize committee states.

The new product from Eva Solo differs from traditional dishcloths in several ways. It is cylindrical and manufactured of micro fibre with a core of absorbent foam. The material means that the cloth unfolds after use and therefore can stand unsupported on the accompanying stainless steel holder.

The Eva Solo Dishcloth is available in sand, grey and black colours. The recommended retail price for two dishcloths with holder is DKK 199.75. Additional dishcloths can be purchased, a pack of two costing DKK 99.75.
