The tools can be used for cooking and serving, as they are produced in durable and low-impact materials. The series is nominated for Formland Design Award – Autumn 2009.

The series of kitchen tools have a delicious and harmonious form. The different tools are good because of the silicone rubber, bearing the stainless steel – and they are light together. The style is retro from the 50s where it was the norm to use as little material as possible. The same goes for this series, developed nice and simple, says price the Committee in its nomination.

Todd Brachet has designed the series of 16 tools for Eva Denmark A / S. The materials used are stainless steel and black silicone rubber, bearing different, so individual material properties are maximized. There is emphasis on providing the tools with a good grip, protecting hands from heat, and making them gentle for use in pots and pans. The series includes with and without silicone coating, skimmer, pizza cutter, salad servers and scraper. The indicative retail price goes from DKK 149.75 to DKK 199.75.

Everyone is becoming more environmentally conscious and we all know the problem of buying groceries and packing them into too many plastic bags each week. Not one, but two of course in order to secure they do not rupture and due to a lack of a working, innovative alternative.

One of Steltons most successful designers, Klaus Rath, has thought about this problem and came up with a solution that is fashionable, secure and functional at the same time, saving us all the use of and money needed for plastic bags along the way.

Shopnic – the new shopping / picnic basket

Klaus Rath has done it again. The young designer behind the bestselling Stelton bread bag has developed an all new shopping-/ picnic basket called ”Shopnic”. It carries a weight of 10 kg and takes about 15 l. Shopnic can, when not in use, be folded to a minimum of 7 cm in height, which is practical to fit below the child’s buggy or inside your car’s trunk, making space for larger items.

Compared to traditional solutions, Shopnic is supplied with a spring, making it possible to be unfolded like a magician’s hat – a practical idea, when you have already one hand holding e.g. your groceries or your child’s buggy. Shopnic has the perfect size both for shopping and the weekend’s picnic, why it is named Shopnic.

Shopnic comes in black/sand, sand/pistachio and red/pink colour schemes – fashionable colours which suit every style.

Both, the inside & outside covers may be washed in the washing machine by 30°C, making stains from spilled milk, juice and other liquids inside the basket a thing of the past.

Royal Copenhagen is internationally known for exploring and expanding the potential of porcelain. Now the porcelain factory launches the ground-breaking new concept “Function”, which fusions terrific design and world-class functionality.

The Function series consists of functional and aesthetic items for the kitchen and the table. And with the new concept Royal Copenhagen opens the door to all the kitchens where aesthetic and good taste are given pride of place. In an inviting and minimalistic mode of expression, Function tells the story of modern design and the many famous dinner services, which Royal Copenhagen has created for generations. Featured in all of the series’ parts, are the decorative flutes that were actually used for the first time in 1775 on the Blue Fluted service. Since then, they have been Royal Copenhagen’s unique feature.

Among other things, the series offers a decorative lemon squeezer in white porcelain, where the fluting has been enlarged and inverted so they can effectively squeeze the juice out of oranges and lemons. The series’ elegant wine set, which comprises corkscrew and wine stopper also sends sophisticated compliments to the fluted look. The white porcelain handle of the corkscrew is bedecked with the decorative fluting. The same is true of the delicate porcelain sphere that constitutes the top of the wine stopper.

As well as having an aesthetic effect, the fluting ensures that the handle and top do not slip unnecessarily while in use.

Add to this a bowl in white fluted porcelain equipped with the soft silicone cover from Royal Copenhagen’s popular Contrast mug. Silicon has both a functional and aesthetic effect because it both provides insulation and contrast to the hard white porcelain with the decorative colours of mother of pearl and purple. The bowl is perfect for everything from dressing to nuts and sweets.

Furthermore, the series gathers together some of Royal Copenhagen’s most popular kitchen items such as the sculptural white spice jars in White Fluted porcelain for the aesthetic cook. The 11 cm tall white cylinders are designed to store herbs and spices so that they keep their flavour. The cylinders each have a narrow band that identifies their contents in clear, white letters. The set is available as six spice jars on a small tray. The spice jars may also be purchased individually to accommodate an expanding collection of herbs and spices.

Furthermore, the ground-breaking Contrast mugs are being launched in pink and orange colours.

The Function series also offers attractive aprons and tea towels.

It started as a source of irritation in the bathroom. It has since required three years’ work, two German engineers and USD 1 million in development costs. Friday the children’s bath tub “The Flexi Bath” won the Formland Design Award – Spring 2009.

The flexible bath tub, The Flexi Bath, is the result of a source of irritation in the bathroom. Friday, Stinne Fruelund, owner of Play for Life ApS, and Designer Niels Peter Estrup, A Real Cool World, won the Formland Design Award for the product.

– For me it was an issue that our baby bath tub took up too much space – in what was a small bathroom too. So I started thinking that perhaps it could be folded to make it easy to store. After three years we now have the end result – and even a design award in our hands, says Designer Niels Peter Estrup, A Real Cool World, who continues:

– It has been essential for us that the product is environmentally sound, sustainable and produced locally under the right conditions. The cost of producing the bath tub was the same regardless of whether production took place in Denmark or in China so the natural choice was a Danish factory.

Great interest in Asia

The factory in North Jutland that produces the Flexi Bath, can produce 700,000 bath tubs annually. The children’s bath tub is particularly suitable for everyone who lives in small apartments with even smaller bathrooms. Already now, the signs are that the product could be an international sales success.

– We are experiencing a large amount of interest from Asia; especially from Japan, where the children’s bath tub is very much in demand. The Asian product launch takes place in April. Then the markets in Norway and Finland will follow and then the rest of Europe, says Niels Peter Estrup, A Real Cool World.

Heat sensitive drain plug

Initially however, the Danes will be the first to benefit from the children’s bath tub. The Flexi Bath will be commercially available from the beginning of March and is sold by the Copenhagen-based company Play for Life ApS. Here, expectations are high after winning the Formland Design Award:

– The Formland Design Award provides us good support for the launch of The Flexi Bath in Denmark, where our target is to sell 10,000 examples during the first year, says Stinne Fruelund, owner of Play for Life ApS.

The Formland Design Award was presented at the opening of Formland Spring 2009. The award includes a marketing contribution of DKK 100,000. The Flexi Bath is introduced in seven different colours. Besides being foldable in the middle, the children’s bath tub comes with a heat sensitive drain plug that changes colour when the water temperature exceeds 36 degrees. The recommended retail price for the Flexi Bath is DKK 269.00.

Inspired by the gossamer lace curtains in Karen Blixen’s home at Rungstedlund, Lin Utzon has now created an attractive new vase and votive with a matt silver motif. The name Tanne is derived from the writer’s nickname, and the range combines simplicity and elegance – just as we would expect from Karen Blixen’s sure sense of style.

Rosendahl is the official main sponsor of the Karen Blixen Museum, and for every piece of Karen Blixen’s Christmas sold, a donation is made towards new exhibitions at the Rungstedlund museum. “We are delighted to be able to make a contribution as the main sponsor of the Karen Blixen Museum’s ongoing efforts to preserve the artistic legacy of Karen Blixen. Partnership with the museum will help to strengthen our brand in Denmark and internationally, while also giving us the opportunity to develop entirely new related concepts,” according to Erik Rosendahl, chairman of the board and founder of Rosendahl.

“The museum at Rungstedlund is an autonomous institution under the Rungstedlund Fund. We depend on funding to enable us to continue the work of preserving Karen Blixen’s lovely house, Rungstedlund, and showcasing the writer’s life and work. The museum has been in existence for 17 years now and has drawn close to a million visitors from all over the world. We are delighted that Rosendahl has come forward as our main sponsor because we feel Karen Blixen’s writings represent the quality of design that Rosendahl stands for,” says Marianne Wirenfeldt Asmussen, museum director at Rungstedlund.

Yellow Cab is the name of Vipp’s 2009 Limited Edition. The inspiration for the new line comes directly from the pulsating streets of New York. Here, in the city that never sleeps, more than 13.000 yellow cabs daily leave their clear impressions.

Besides thousands of yellow cabs, New York is now also home to Vipp’s first showroom outside of Denmark. This marks a new chapter in the almost 70 year long history of Vipp.

New York now also spells Vipp and Yellow Cab. The colour of the year immediately leads your thoughts towards the very special impression that overwhelms you when you find yourself in Times Square.

Vipp Yellow Cab is a new interpretation of the classic Vipp universe that will bring new life to your bathroom and kitchen. A chic and dazzling spring colour giving you a little bite of The Big Apple.

Behind New York’s yellow cabs

The famous yellow cabs are the lifeblood of New York and have achieved iconic status, just as Vipp has won praise as an international design icon. With the new series from Vipp, Scandinavian minimalism meets the big city pulse of New York.

Today, New York is home of more than 13.000 yellow cabs. This number is known because a special license is required in order to own a yellow cab. The license was introduced in 1937 at a cost of 10 dollars. The license can be sold on by the owner, and the major taxi companies are willing to pay large sums for it. In 2007, the price of a license had risen to 600.000 dollars.

Gasoline powered taxis were introduced in New York in 1907 by young businessman Harry N. Allen. He was also the first to introduce the yellow colour on taxis. He did this after learning that yellow is the colour easiest seen from a distance. In 1960 the city of New York decided that all taxis were to be painted yellow.
