Unfortunately you can’t use them to peel fruit – or to cut a string. This is why Stelton now introduces the beautiful, practical pocket knife with a built in key ring.

Not unfolded the pocket knife, which is partly made of black rubber, simply functions as a practical key ring. But by pulling on the side, the knife’s blade appears all ready to use. It is easy to use and it is the perfect gift for the man – or woman – who values functional design. Price £ 24,90.

Marianne Britt Jørgensen explains: “Move is designed as a product series with a clear, distinct and unique identity. Our accessories are meant to be products that people like to have in their hands when they are ‘on the move’”.

This is the story of an experiment with paper that ended up on display in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. normann copenhagen presents Kontur, the unique vase designed by Mette Kargo Hvid.

As part of her graduation project, Mette was sitting folding strips of paper, inspired by the ornamentation typical of textile craftsmanship. Through her experimentation with paper, she created a pattern with strips of paper that formed a simple, flexible shape. She positioned the strips of paper on edge and regarded her work. This was how the idea for Kontur took shape.

Taking inspiration from lace, Kontur has been created in the tension belt between traditional craftsmanship and modern form – designed in norm-transcending materials.

Mette Kargo Hvid explains: “Kontur springs from my background as a textile designer and represents the concept of a simple, flexible vase, inspired by the intricate ornamentation of lace. I find it interesting to apply my expertise in textiles in alternative ways – and at the same time reflect upon the multifaceted potential afforded by the old craftsmanship traditions. Kontur is designed in silicone rubber because this material, as well as being an alternative to ceramics, gives Kontur a surprisingly soft touch while imbuing it with a simple, informal character.”

With its soft, flexible material, kontur surprises with a new experience everytime you use it. Kontur is the story of an experiment that culminated in a vase. It is a work of craftsmanship, made by hand and utilising certain unique characteristics that have been successfully reproduced in a process of industrial production. Kontur has been created in the tension belt between traditional craftsmanship and modern form.

Kontur is on display in the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, Korea & Japan.

Kontur will be available in the shops in August 2007

Material: Silicone
Height: 6 cm

Price: 35.00 $

With the new salt and pepper grinders “Black ‘n’ Withe” from Stelton explore you do not need to bother yourself with putting them back in the cupboard when the meal has ended. The set is a beautiful, graphic double sculpture with functional ceramic grinders.

The two grinders – in respectively white and black – are twisted as in a weak spiral and they instinctively invite the hand to continue the twisting movement and give the meal “A Twist of Taste”. They are shaped in mat, soft plastic. ”The thought behind the grinders was, that they should function as a beautiful design object divided into two, that you wish to put on display in your home” says Jakob Wagner, Black ‘n’ White’s designer. Price each £ 34,90.

Form is intelligent design, with a touch of humour that makes dull everyday routines a bit easier to take.

Form is one common design matching three independent products: an egg timer, an egg slicer and a salt and pepper set. Boil an egg; slice it and eat it with salt and pepper – that is the essence of Form, a design inspired by an old black and white picture of an egg. Charles Job explains: “Actually it was a photograph of an egg taken by Hans Finsler, which inspired the trio Form. The motive was an egg, side-lit, that cast a flat, perfectly round, perfectly sensuous, ephemeral shadow. This shadow became the Form series, all identical in shape and size, but each product distinguished from the other solely by the markings on its surface. Each has its own character on the surface which gives a clue to its function. I think that the use of Form will add a kind of fun to the kitchen.”

This is where taste, function and visual experience form a synthesis. You simply pour grinded coffee beans and boiling water into the jug, mix it once with the spoon (included) and then it filters the coffee on its own while you pour.

In order to keep warm the jug is double walled and it is comes in abeautiful dark brown colour that resembles the colour of roasted coffee beans. Just like the rest of the 21st series it has a simple, futuristic form language. The basic shape of the jug is a sort of rounded rectangle with soft edges. Stelton 21st is designed by Designit. Price £ 39,90.

The Formland Design Award
The Formland Design Award is awarded to the season’s most distinctive and functional product in Scandinavian design every half-year. In addition to the prestigious award statuette, the winner receives a marketing contribution of DKK 100,000. The Formland Design Award has been awarded among exhibitors at Formland since 1987.

The members of Formland’s Design Award Committee are Erik Rimmer, editor of Bo Bedre, John Boye, graphic designer, Jørn Moesgaard, creative manager, Kirsten Lundbergh, textile printer and designer, as well as Birgitte Appelong, designer and furniture architect.

Smile – and your bowl will smile back at you
The latest new design product from Eva Denmark A/S can only put you in a good mood. The Smiley bowl always smiles at its surroundings, and it is always ready to lend a helping hand to hold nuts, sweets or all the stuff that you carry around in your pockets. The decorative bowl from Eva Denmark A/S has won the Formland Design Award – Autumn 2007.

“With its Smiley bowl, Eva Solo moves from plastic to mouth-blown glassware. The result is a beautiful seasonal product that is highly imaginative. It is a good idea to cut off the edge, so that two different functions are achieved. Furthermore, the name is very fitting, as it really does look as if the bowl is smiling at you,” are the reasons given by the Design Award Committee in the nomination.

Eva Solo Smiley is designed by Claus Jensen and Henrik Holbæk the two designers behind the recognised Danish design firm Tools. As usual, the product is yet another well-conceived solution from the talented designer. In fact, with Smiley, you get two bowls in one. The outer bowl invitingly presents pistachio nuts or caramels, while the inner bowl is perfect for the empty shells and the wrapping paper.

The bowl has deliberately been designed so that it produces a smile, and it is made of several layers of clear, coloured glass. Smiley is available in popular colours like lime, orange, turquoise, red and black. The recommended retail price is DKK 499. The Smiley bowl from Eva Solo can be seen at stand C 2530 during Formland Autumn 2007.
